Paper Cutters

May 16, 2008  |  Difficulty: Easy

If you or your office process large amounts of paperwork or hard-copy reports, you may want to invest in a paper cutter.  Paper cutters help to produce high-quality results in a fraction of the time of a manual process.

Paper cutters come in a variety of sizes and provide a variety of functions depending on your needs.  Economy paper trimmers with a metal cutting arm are found in most schools and small offices.  These cutters help make smooth and even cuts for documents or photos.  Larger arm cutters can cut up to 15 sheets of paper at one time.

Specialty photo trimmers are also available for accurate photo trimming.  These cutters provide a built-in light that shines along the photo to ensure a precise cut.

Manual guillotine cutters can cut up to 800 sheets of paper at one time.  Just as its name suggests, the guillotine cutter works by securing a stack of paper into place and then lowering a blade down through the paper.  Electric cutters are also available with a power-driven blade.

Larger automatic machines can be used for cutting large quantities of custom-sized products, like business cards, photos, or invitations.  They provide a clean and accurate cut for the highest quality results.  Some have features like digital imaging and self-adjusting measurements.

Paper cutters range in price from $30 for a small manual trimmer to $16,000 for an automatic, self-adjusting or digital machine.  Watch for features like number of pages that can be cut at one time, speed of electric cutters, paper trays, and automatic feeders.
