Microsoft Windows® 8 is an operating system designed to be used on many types of mobile devices such as computers, touch screen devices, laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. Almost all these devices contain GPS modules and mobile connections to the Internet. Many applications use these features to share your location on social networks. If you would rather not disclose this data, Microsoft® has provided the option to turn off sharing locations with the applications or software installed on Windows® 8 devices. The instructions below explain how to do turn this feature off.

Turning off location sharing in Windows® 8 instructions:

  1. Click the bottom right corner of the start screen and click on the “Settings” icon.
  2. Click the “More PC Settings / Change PC Settings”.
  3. On the PC settings screen, select “Privacy”.
  4. Switch the “Let apps use my location” toggle to off.
  5. Press “Alt + F4” to close the settings.
