How Do I Take and Save a Screenshot

A screenshot, also referred to as a screen capture or snapshot, can be described as an image of the actual position of the objects displayed on your screen. It is often used for demonstrating a particular situation. People often take screen shots to share it with someone (described in the article “How Do I Upload a Screenshot”), or for saving as a file for future use. There are many ways to capture the screen, for example; you can use the IM ToolPack application that is used in the aforementioned article, or, in the instructions below you can learn how to take and save a screenshot image without any special software using only Windows® accessories.

Instructions:

  1. When you have what you want to capture on your screen, press the “Print Screen (PrtScr)” button on your keyboard.
  2. Now, open the Microsoft® Paint program by clicking on the “Start” button and go to “All Programs > Accessories” and then select “Paint”.
  3. Press “Ctrl+V” on your keyboard and the snapshot will be inserted.
  4. In the main navigation bar, choose “File> Save” (Ctrl +S).
  5. Choose the location where the screenshot will be saved.
  6. Write the “File name,” choose the “File type” (usually JPG or PNG) and click the “Save” button.
  7. Close the Microsoft® Paint application. You have now captured a screenshot!
