Windows® Defender is an antispyware tool initially integrated in the Windows® 7 and Windows Vista® operating systems. If you use another security solution for detecting threats like adware, spyware, etc. you may want to disable this Microsoft® basic anti-spyware solution. By turning off this integrated utility you can save your computer’s performance for other tasks. Follow the instructions below to learn how to do so.

To Disable Windows® Defender:

  1. Open the Start menu and click on the “Control Panel” menu.
  2. Type “Defender” in the search box. Then, in the list of results, click the “Windows Defender” option.
  3. Click on the “Tools” button in the main navigation bar.
  4. Click on the “Options” button.
  5. Click on the “Administrator” item in the left navigation bar.
  6. Uncheck the “Use this program” checkbox.
  7. Click on the “Save” button.
