It is quite common for video gamers to record their play. Typically, this is done to prove their video gaming skills or make tutorials for beginners. The Fraps® software was designed expressly for this purpose. The application runs in the background, and you can start recording video at the right moment just by pressing a predefined key on your keyboard. This software offers useful tools such as the ability to monitor the FPS, screen capturing abilities, and benchmark. However, the most commonly used function is the real-time video and audio capture feature. Follow the instructions below to learn how to easily download and install the Fraps® software.
Instructions:
- Open your Internet browser and go to the Fraps website.
- In main navigation bar, click on the “Download” button and then click on the “Download Fraps ” link and save the file to your hard disk.
- Locate the downloaded file and run the installer by double-clicking the file. If your operating system asks you for confirmation, click on the “Run” button.
- The first dialog box in the installation wizard displays a “License Agreement” page. Read the terms and click on the “I Agree” button.
- In the next window, choose the installation path and click on the “Next” button. Then click on the “Install” button.
- When the installation process finishes, click on the “Finish” button.
- Launch the application and switch to the “Movies” tab.
- Set a folder for saving video files, a capture hotkey, the FPS and whatever other settings you need. Now, minimize the application.
Tips and Tricks:
- To have the Fraps® application always running and prepared to record movies, select the “Start Fraps minimized” and “Run Fraps when Windows® starts” checkboxes in the “General” tab of the application.
Warnings:
- The free unregistered version of Fraps® has some restrictions, such as watermark logo in captured video and the maximum length of one movie is 30 seconds. Also, the screenshots are only available in the BMP file format.
