Carbon absorption technologies are cost effective filtration alternatives for water treatment in homes that receive water from the municipal supply. These carbon filters eliminate odors, bad tastes, chlorine, and other pollutants.

Carbon filters are usually placed under sinks, on countertops, or on the faucet spout. Remember, only some carbon absorption systems have been certified for adequate removal of lead, asbestos, dangerous organic compounds, and coliform. There are two kinds of carbon absorption systems:

Granular Activated Carbon

  • Effectively eliminates gases and chemical pollutants.
  • Offers minimal protection against microorganisms.
  • Does not remove hardness, dissolved solids, or heavy metals.
The downside is that chemicals can re-contaminate the water if the filter becomes clogged with filtered pollutants. Monitor the filter and clean it as necessary to prevent this.
